Child Watch/Playroom (ages 2 yrs – 10 yrs) (COVID procedure)

The Playroom is open:

Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:30 — 11:30 am and Monday through Thursday 4:30 — 7:30pm.

Parent/Guardian will need to sign up the child(ren) online (click here) for the date and time they wish to bring their child(ren) to the playroom. The time limit is 1.5 hours. The maximum number of children is 10 per time slot.

The ages are 2 years old through 10 Years old and face masks are required for all children while they are in the Playroom.

Parent/Guardian will have the child(ren) temperature checked at the front desk.

Parent/Guardian will not be allowed to come into the playroom. If a playroom staff person needs to have a child picked up for any reason during their assigned time the parent will be paged

Parent’s Night Out (Ages 5-11)

As of July 2020, our Parent’s Night Out events are currently on hold due to COVID-19 precautions. 

Parent’s Night Out is a safe and fun environment for kids ages 5-11 to play, while parents enjoy a quiet evening to themselves or an evening out on the town. Pizza and drinks are provided as well as lots of fun! This program is supervised by trained staff. Children must be signed in by 6:00pm. Pre-register at the Front Desk by the Monday before the scheduled date. Activities may include swimming, x-box, games and crafts. Life jackets and bubbles provided for non-swimmers. MINIMUM of 6 needed to hold event.

Fees: $15/night/child Members $17.50/night/child Non-Members
Times: 5:30 pm – 8:45 pm

Afterschool Adventure Club (Grades K-5)

We serve students from McSwain, Bessie Weller, and A.R. Ware Elementary Schools. We offer a warm, caring environment where our children have the opportunity to play with school friends and make new ones. This state-licensed program is directed by an experienced leadership team offering homework assistance, healthy snacks, sports (inside and outdoor), arts and crafts, games, and swimming. Space is limited. Registration is ongoing as space allows. Staunton City Schools provide transportation at dismissal.

Fees:  Registration $10

MIDDLE and HIGH SCHOOL

Middle School Mayhem (Grades 6-8)

This event is for middle school students to be kids, have fun with their friends and make new ones in a fun and safe place. Middle School Mayhem features basketball games, dodgeball, music, a game area, swimming and more. Parents must pick up kids by 9:45 pm. Teen Center (Ages 12-17)

Community Youth can experience a safe and fun environment under the care of Teen Center Supervisor Eddie Santiago and his youth development staff. The renovated Teen Center is equipped with a game room, a lounge area and a homework area. Optional programs offered for teens as well. As of July 2020, we are still waiting to re-open our Teen Center due to COVID-19 precautions. 

Media Club (Ages 12-17)

The Media Club is designed to give students an overview into storytelling and visual media. In the six-week session, students will be introduced to photojournalism, videography, print journalism, storytelling and graphic design. Tools for Achieving Success (Ages 11-16)

The Tools for Achieving Success program helps prepare students ages 11-16 for securing and keeping a job. Topics include: presentability, resume & cover letter, job interviews, job performance and other related skills. Volunteer Corps

Youth Volunteer CorpsAges 11-18

Are you tired of your children being a permanent arm’s length away from their phones or hibernating indoors glued to their TV? Do you want them to learn how to make a difference in their community while boosting their resume for college?

Youth Volunteer Corps is a network of affiliates hosted by non-profit organizations, schools or individuals that offer youth ages 11-18 the opportunity to serve their community.

Registration forms are available at the Y front desk and at Shelburne Middle School and Staunton High School Guidance Offices.

YOUTH HEALTH & FITNESS

Ages 12-14

All youth ages 12-14 must complete at least four one-hour appointments with a fitness instructor in order to use the Wellness Center. Sessions emphasize safety and alignment. See Front Desk to schedule an appointment.

YOUTH TENNIS

We welcome Chris Stambaugh as our new YMCA Tennis Pro.  Chris Stambaugh is a native of Martinsburg, West Virginia and has been teaching tennis for over 30 years.  He is the current men’s and women’s tennis coach at Mary Baldwin University here in Staunton and has been in that position since 2018.  Stambaugh also is the vice president for the Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County Tennis Association (SWAT). Prior to MBU, Stambaugh coached at Chowan University (NC), Tiffin University (OH) and at his alma mater Shepherd University (WV).  As a coach, Stambaugh’s teams have won a total of 12 conference championships and made one national Sweet Sixteen appearance in 2017. As a player, Stambaugh’s team won a conference title as a member of Shepherd in 1988.

Chris resides in Staunton with his wife Holly and their two daughters, Samantha and Milena.

EARLY HITTERS

Ages 5-8

This will teach the basics of tennis.  One Hour.  Minimum of 3 and maximum of 6 participants.  This will be held on Wednesdays in December with a start time of 4pm.

PRE-TEEN TENNIS

Ages 9-13

This will teach your pre-teen intermediate tennis skills. One Hour. Minimum 3, Maximum 6 participants per class.  This will be held on Wednesdays in December with a start time of 5pm.

HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS

Ages 14-18

This will get your high schooler prepared for high school tennis.  One Hour. Minimum 3, Maximum 6 participants per class.  This will be held on Wednesdays in December with a start time of 6pm.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Due to COVID-19 our Girls Volleyball dates are currently TBD.

Ages 9-12

This is a developmental program designed to help young athletes learn and improve on the fundamentals of the sport. The program includes one weekly practice on Tuesday or Wednesday and a game on Thursday. The practices are dedicated to helping players improve their individual skill sets. The games are intended to help players practice sportsmanship and learn in-game strategy. Interested players ages 13 and older may email volleyball coordinator Priscilla Jenkins (priscilla@saymca.org) to request an exemption. Families will be notified one week prior to season start about practice day and time.

We are also seeking experienced adult volleyball players to help teach the younger players.
